Installation Procedures

  1. Lift the vehicle: Raise the front of the vehicle with a lift and remove the front wheels.
  2. Remove ball joint nut: Take off the locking nut connecting the lower control arm ball joint to the steering knuckle.
  3. Separate the ball joint: Use the special ball joint separator to release the tapered fit between the ball joint and steering knuckle.
  4. Remove old ball joint: Unbolt the fasteners connecting the ball joint to the lower control arm, then take out the worn ball joint.
  5. Clean mounting holes: Clear rust and dirt from the tapered bore of the steering knuckle and all mounting surfaces.
  6. Fit new ball joint: Mount the new ball joint onto the lower control arm and tighten the bolts.
  7. Insert steering knuckle: Fit the tapered stud of the ball joint into the tapered bore of the steering knuckle.
  8. Tighten nut: Install the locking nut and torque it to factory specification.
  9. Fit dust boot: Install the dust boot completely if it comes separately.
  10. Refit wheels: Reinstall the front wheels and lower the vehicle to the ground.
  11. Wheel alignment: A full four-wheel alignment is mandatory after ball joint replacement.
